The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has revealed that he has no plan of resigning his appointment.
Ajayi who recently resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), picked up a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) membership card on Sunday, June 21.
Affirming the position that he won’t be resigning from Akeredolu’s government, he said his reason was because he had not been told to do so by his people.
He said:
“My people that voted for me did not ask me to resign, so I remain the deputy governor of this state. I was duly elected as a deputy governor.”
Ajayi’s Chief Press Secretary, Tope Okeowo also told Premium Times that his boss was elected deputy governor on a joint ticket and would love to serve his people.
He said;
“There is freedom of association and this is not the first time the deputy will leave his boss. They came on joint ticket.
“It happened during Obasanjo and Atiku’s time. The court ruled that there is freedom of association. It is a joint ticket and that was why the ‘deputy governor irregularities’ affected the APC candidate in Bayelsa. So, resigning from government is not in the radar.”
On if Ajayi will pick the PDP governorship form to contest in the forthcoming election in the state, Okeowo said;
“That cannot be ruled out but what matters is that first thing has been done which is defection. Every other thing will follow.”
