The United Bank of Africa (UBA), has issued a statement regarding spurious speculations linking it to the coup d’état in Turkey.
A statement by the bank made available to www.theoctopusnews.com, read thus “UBA is aware of the on-going and spurious media speculation linking our institution to recent events in Turkey. In light of this we believe it is necessary to categorically state that UBA has no involvement in or connection to these accusations, which are clearly false.
We remain focused and firmly committed to delivering on our strategy to build Africa’s premier banking institution.”
In light of the statement signed by Charles Aigbe, Head of Communications UBA, Plc, the speculation is therefore put to rest.
You may recall that On 15 July 2016, a coup d’état was attempted in Turkey against the government but ultimately failed. The attempt was performed by a faction within the Turkish Armed Forces that was organized under a council called the Peace at Home Council. The council attempted to seize control of several key places in Ankara,Istanbul, and elsewhere, but failed to do so after forces loyal to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the cabinet of Binali Yıldırım defeated them.
The motives behind the attempt remain unclear.
