The American congress has authenticated the victory of Joe Biden as President-elect.

This took place hours after President Trump’s supporters invaded the US Capitol Hall.

Lawmakers resumed the session after police was able to remove the mob, which had been encouraged by President Trump in a bid to overturn his defeat in the last election.

The authentication paves way for Biden to be sworn in January 20.

Biden’s victory was confirmed in the early hours of Thursday by a joint session presided over by Vice-President Mike Pence, who deacribed the violence as been a “dark day in the history of the United States Capitol”.

Biden’s victory was certified after objections by some Republican lawmakers to overturn the result in Arizona and Pennsylvania were rejected.

The President-elect had earlier tweeted his disapproval of what happened at the US Capitol on his official Twitter account.

“Let me be very clear: the scenes of chaos at the Capitol do not represent who we are. What we are seeing is a small number of extremists dedicated to lawlessness. This is not dissent, it’s disorder. It borders on sedition, and it must end. Now.”

He further urged President Trump to go on national television now to fulfill his oath and defend the constitution by demanding an end to this siege.
