The inauguration ceremony of the 46th American president, Joe Biden, and Kamara Harris has begun at Capitol Hill with guests arriving.
The guests including family and friends came from a church service held at Washington’s Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle.
Among those who were in the church were incoming Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Douglas Emhoff.
Others include a bipartisan group of members of congress, including all four top-ranking members of congressional leadership.
They include both Senate leaders, Republican Mitch McConnell and Democrat Chuck Schumer, as well as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy.
Meanwhile, a high level of security presence is still present at Capitol Hill with over 25,000 security personnel present with customs, border control, and other operatives creating barricade.
Biden is the second Catholic U.S. president, and St. Matthew’s is the seat of the Catholic archbishop of Washington.
