President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Felix Osifo has refuted speculation that protesters pulled down the gate of National Assembly to get access into the premises.
Osifo who made this clarification while speaking with Seun Okinbaloye on Politics Today, said that they had spoken with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), prior to the protest and told him of their plans.
Further, he noted that the gate of the National Assembly collapsed as a result of the huge number of protesters trying to access the premises, but refused to agree that it was pulled down.
According to him, they had explained to the police that they would occupy the assembly and address Nigerians, he added that ordinarily, he would have expected the gate to be open to avoid difficulty to access the assembly.
There had been speculations that security operatives stationed at the legislative building refused to open the gate to allow the angry workers to express their displeasure leading to the protesters pulling down the gate and forcing themselves in.
