Former Nigerian military President, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, turned 72 years on Saturday, August 17.
However, rather than celebrate with an elaborate party, the man opted for a low-key birthday shindig.
He marked the day with a special prayer session conducted by Khadi Alikali Usman Wada Erena and later celebrated with family members and a few business associates at his Minna, Niger State, residence.
Babangida received businessman, Aliko Dangote; Niger State deputy governor, Ahmed Musa Ibeto; Alhaji Umar Ndanusa, Alhaji Mohammed Tako, Abdullahi Maji, Hassan Talo, and Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida University, Professor Ibrahim Adamu Kolo, before rushing out to Kano State.
Prior to his 72nd birthday, when asked how he wanted to be remembered, he replied: “As someone who played his part and contributed his quota to Nigeria’s development.”
Asked to write his epitaph, he said: “Here lies General IBB, born in Minna, joined military profession in 1962, stayed there for 32 years, serving this great nation and, by the grace of God, he became a military president and served this country eight years. May his soul rest in peace!”
