For many, Tunde Fowler cannot be alienated from the successes of Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS).
At a point, the man along with his team at LIRS were responsible for generating N20 billion monthly, as the adverse effect of the then government’s refusal to release local government allocation due to newly created local government was cushioned by Fowler and his team.
However, just as the tales of his successes precede him, so does speculation of his alleged excess and wasteful spending.
One of the excesses which many will be quick to associate with Fowler remains how he blew millions of naira at his daughter’s elaborate wedding to Abi Kuku, son of Ijebu wealthy businessman Ogbeni Oja of Ijebu, Chief Bayo Kuku.
The circus-like event saw a traditional marriage at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos on Saturday October 22nd, 2011, white wedding in Dubai on November 19th, 2011 and honeymoon in Atlanta Georgia, USA.
The peak of Fowler’s career at LIRS saw him raising the state’s internally generated revenue from a meager N1Billion to where it is now.
With President-elect Muhammadu Buhari set to be sworn into office on Friday, May 29, and recent talks of Fowler been linked to the federation’s tax job many are asking if he is indeed the man for the appointment.
