The Akure edition of Globacom’s Mega Music Nationwide Tour, which held last weekend, turned out to be a perfect homecoming for songstress Yemi Alade who hails from Ondo State.
Yemi, who won the MTV African Music Awards in 2015 and 2016, was among six music super stars who provided awe-inspiring entertainment to thousands of Glo subscribers who converged on the Golden Events Centre venue of the concert.
She received a thunderous applause from the audience when she mounted the stage after Korede Bello and Runtown had performed. Midway into her performance, she paused and declared, “It may interest you all to know that this girl standing before you tonight is actually from this great State, Ondo State. My father was from Ondo state and I am happy that Glo brought me back home. If my daddy were to be alive today, he would be happy that his daughter is back home.”
The Afro-pop singer also expressed gratitude to the audience for their display of affection for her. “I am your daughter and your sister and I am delighted coming to my roots, and I thank Globacom once again for this opportunity to see my people; I love you all,” she stated. She put up a memorable and energetic delivery that left the indigenes of the state present at the concert feeling very proud of their music ambassador.
Dancehall star, Runtown, and Korede Bello of Mavin Records also delivered their part by giving spectacular stage performances. However, it was Igbo language rapper, Chibuzor Nelson Azubike, widely known as Phyno, who surprised many when he took to the stage. As he delivered his songs, whose lyrics were mainly in Igbo, the audience, which was predominantly Yoruba, joined him in singing every line of his tracks such as ‘Connect’, ‘Alobam’, ‘Ezege’, and ‘Fada fada’.
Olamide and Timaya were the last acts to perform for the night and they raised the bar even higher with their deliveries. Both showed why they are highly regarded as crowd favourites. The Bayelsa-born stage master, Timaya, blended his newfound spiritual disposition with philosophical equanimity as he reeled out his hit tracks. On his part, Olamide took the show back to the streets and engaged the audience with his trademark street lingo all through his performance.
Nollywood actresses Uche Jombo and Juliet Ibrahim anchored the show, while Yoruba movie star, Odunlade Adekola, made celebrity guest appearance. Celebrated female disc jockey, DJ Lambo, complimented the performance of the musicians by dishing out hot tunes from her jukebox.
Before the show commenced, Globacom’s State Manager, Ondo State, Tunji Omoworare, welcomed the guests to the event. “In addition to having the best network, Globacom is the only network that is capable of giving its subscribers this kind of world-class treatment, and the more you stay with Globacom, the more you will continue to enjoy the best of services,” he declared.
The next edition of Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour will be held in Kubwa, near Abuja. Glo subscribers who are interested in attending the show are expected to have used up to N2,000 to recharge his or her data and voice, and they should SMS “MUSIC ABUJA” to the short code 207.
